Katsushika Hokusai (1760-1849)
Hokusai was a Japanese painter and woodblock printer. He drew inspiration from the traditions, legends and lives of Japanese people. He knew extreme poverty and died a peasant, as he proudly described himself. He was always eager to learn and said on his deathbed, "If Heaven had lent me but five years more, I would have become a great painter."
Your child will have homework books based on Literacy and Maths. A task will be set by the teacher on a Monday and will need to be completed by the following Monday. One week the work will be based on Reading Comprehension and the following week the focus will be on Arithmetic.
Spelling will also be given on Mondays, to be learnt for the following Monday.
Reading is also very important, we encourage children to read with an adult as often as possible. We will be sending home a new book on a weekly basis. Please sign the reading record when you read with your child/children.
In addition children will take home a sheet with “KIRFs” (Key Instant Recall Facts) every half Term to be learnt.
We have a shared library which has many interesting books. Children are encouraged to use it.
Physical Education takes place twice a week. It is very important that PE kits are kept in school at all times. Please mark each item clearly – that includes plimsolls as it can quite difficult for your child to find them when they are all changing at once.
We have three school trips a year, one each term.
More information about what your child is learning in school can be found on the curriculum map
