Dear Burch class,
We are finally coming to the end of the summer term and our time together in year 1. We have the long summer holidays to come now and a well-earned rest. I hope you all get to spend some quality time with your friends and family!
To finish off the year we have prepared a mixture of activities for literacy that includes a reading comprehension, a variety of spellings, punctuation activities and some directed writing tasks. You will have plenty of opportunities to practise your literacy skills this week!
For maths we are looking at time to the hour and half hour and we will also be comparing time too!
For history and science there are some tasks that you can complete that will enable you all to consolidate all the learning you have done over the last few weeks.
The summer holidays will seem like a very long time for you all, especially if you have been at home for most of the lockdown. It will be a really good idea if you can maintain some of the routines that you have established throughout the past few months. Try to read as regularly as you can, practise reading quietly in your head and also out loud with expression. If you have someone who likes listening to stories being read aloud this is such a good opportunity to practise your ‘story telling’ voice. It will also be a good idea if you could practise your handwriting and creative writing skills. Perhaps you could keep a diary for some of the exciting things that you do over the holidays or maybe write a letter to a friend.
There are also lots of learning opportunities on our school website. I have also included some more links below.
Finally, I would just like to say a big thank you to you all for all of your hard work throughout this year. I am really looking forward to seeing you all again in September when you continue your learning journey into year 2.
Continue to stay safe and have a fun filled Summer break.
