Parkside in Wonderland…
Children went down a rabbit hole as they arrived at Parkside Primary School this morning, as the teachers and staff at the school in Chingford had transformed the entire building and playground into an Alice in Wonderland themed storybook!
This was a complete surprise to the children, and something staff at Parkside School organise every year, to celebrate literacy and inspire the children to be creative and develop a passion for writing.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic the School were unable to host the popular event for the previous two years. Headteacher of Parkside Primary School, Lisa Cousins, said:
“We were delighted to once again ensure fun is very firmly on the curriculum at Parkside Primary School today. We have challenged all of our children to put their fabulous writing skills to the test by producing high quality written work to impress the Queen of Hearts and save Alice!”
Parents and children alike were overwhelmed as they entered the playground. The look on the childrens’ faces was something to behold as they realised what an extraordinary day they had ahead of them, with teachers in Alice in Wonderland fancy dress handing out notes explaining what was happening. The children couldn’t believe their luck when they saw Mad Hatter’s Tea Party-themed Teacup rides in the playground!
Mrs Cousins explained: “The day is all about making learning fun as it is important for us to ensure that all of our children enjoy being part of our school community. Especially after the difficult two years we’ve all been through. I’d like to thank all of the Parkside team for their incredible efforts in delivering this extra-special day for the pupils at Parkside Primary School.”
